Programme Shiatsu
Experience six full days of healthy indulgence with a tailored Shiatsu program to enhance your conscience and to broaden your caring relationships with others. All Shiatsu workshops are held with great professionalism and individual attention by Martine Leroy and Edmund Robinson who come with over 30 years of shiatsu teaching and treatment experience. Both are registered Shiatsu teachers and practitioners with the French Federation of Traditional Shiatsu linked with the International Shiatsu Network.
The daily shiatsu classes will give you the basic techniques to be able to practice and experience the special quality of Shiatsu touch which has the effect of awakening the receiver’s own self-healing process. The Shiatsu classes will cover work for the whole body using techniques of soft, deep, and supportive pressure that transform touch into a therapeutic experience. The immersion in the Balinese culture and ever-present spirituality will find an echo in Shiatsu’s sensitive and empathic quality that you will be able to bring back into your daily lives.
Touch is one of the fundamental tools Balitrees Retreats use to express compassion towards another living being. How you use that tool will determine how the condition of that person changes. Your desire to relieve pain or discomfort in others can be put into practice in different ways and the instinct to put your hands on someone who suffers is the natural reaction to this desire.
To structure the way you touch, how you touch, and where you touch, you need a model, and over the many years of human existence, different models have been developed. At Balitrees, they will introduce the traditional Japanese therapy of Shiatsu – an art for health. By putting the theory and practice of Shiatsu into the context of the compassionate nature, you can learn to direct your touch with empathy and understanding.
You will learn to grasp the oriental concept of energy circulation in the understanding of yourselves and how to improve it for better health, both in body and mind. During your stay through the week, you will have the opportunity to receive a shiatsu treatment from either Martine or Edmund. This is included in the package for your stay.
On arrival day there will be a short meeting where will discuss the principles of Shiatsu, its roots in traditional Chinese medicine and the fundamental concepts underlying the model of energetic circulation; its nature and how you can influence it. At the end of the meeting, Balitrees Retreats will organize the appointments for the individual shiatsu treatments during the week.
Throughout the following five days, you will develop the basic techniques of Shiatsu – pressure, stretching, and articular mobilization – through a number of sequences, working the whole body in different positions. You will work in pairs whilst lying on the back, the front and sitting. For the practice of Shiatsu, you will remain clothed. The morning yoga class will help to prepare you for the Shiatsu session and open the way for a relaxed but tonic touch. On the final day of the course, you will complete your session with an overall revision.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival Sunday at 1.30 p.m. There will be a short introduction explaining the principles behind the practice of Shiatsu with its roots in traditional Chinese medicine and the concept of what is energetic circulation in the afternoon. Learn what does « centered » really means and what is the idea behind harmony and energy when you talk about improving your health in both mind and body.
Day 2
After the morning yoga session, you start the Shiatsu practice by working on the back, developing the basic tools of Shiatsu; perpendicular pressure and balanced support whilst working with both hands. Here, you’ll discover the bladder meridian and its acupressure points with their connection to the nervous system and how it stimulates your basic motivations. In the afternoon, you’ll have yoga sessions and Balinese cultural activity (both are optional).
Day 3
You will start the day with morning yoga. You then continue to develop the techniques of pressure and stretching on the legs and feet of your partner. The legs will be where we help the circulation in the digestive meridians as well as stimulating the kidney meridian in the feet. You’ll have an afternoon yoga session followed by a Balinese cultural activity (both are optional).
Day 4
Start the day with morning yoga. Moving to the sitting position, you change your techniques to work the back, the shoulders, and the neck working the gall bladder acupoints to relieve tension in the upper part of the body. Enjoy an afternoon yoga session and Balinese cultural activity (both are optional).
Day 5
Enjoy morning yoga. During your Shiatsu practise, your partner will be lying on the back where you will work the arms, hands, and neck by using pressure, stretching, and mobilization. This will enable you to open the circulation from the heart to the arms promoting a calm both in the mind and the heart. After the practice, enjoy an afternoon yoga session and Balinese cultural activity (both are optional).
Day 6
Start the day with morning yoga. Today, during Shiatsu practice, your partner will still be lying on the back, while you explore the head and the face. You will complete your discovery of Shiatsu by putting all the sequences together into a fluid movement from the back to the head.
This retreat requires no previous practice. You will be working in pairs whilst remaining in loose comfortable clothing. The daily Shiatsu practice is perfectly complemented by the preceding yoga session and will enable you to have the techniques to create harmonious shiatsu treating the whole of the body.
It will give you the opportunity to create a moment of shared connection between you, your family or friends born from our instinctive compassionate nature. It may even lead to a desire to continue the journey of energetic healing through touch thus enriching your lives further.
